Nhlanhla Mafu’s ex-husband, TK Nciza has broken up with his fiancée Lebo Phasha.

The lovers had hopes of being a couple, but it crashed before manifestation.

Zimoja reports that TK and Lebo parted ways after dating for over a year.

They had completed the lobola proceedings and were preparing for the big wedding in 2023.

“Lebo’s child and TK’s kids were almost like siblings. They had developed a strong bond and were getting along so well,” a source revealed to Zimoja.
“She moved out, he took the car and they have removed each other’s pictures on social media,” the source added.

“The relationship is over and I don’t see them getting back together.”

A close friend of the two said TK was spotted at the ANC 112 Anniversary celebration in Mpumalanga in January with someone who appeared to be the new woman in his life. “They seemed cosy enough to be dating,” the source added.

Tips for Planning a Budget Safari

Planning a budget safari in South Africa involves a bit of research and flexibility. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your trip:

1. Travel During the Off-Season: Prices for accommodations and tours are often lower during the off-peak months (May to September).
2. Book in Advance: Early bookings can help you secure better rates and availability, especially for popular destinations like Kruger National Park.
3. Self-Catering Options: Many parks offer self-catering accommodations, which can save you money on meals.
4. Use Local Operators: Local safari operators often offer better rates and more personalized service than international companies.
5. Join Group Tours: Sharing the cost of guides and transportation with other travelers can significantly reduce expenses.

Types of Budget Safari Packages

There are various types of budget safari packages available in South Africa, each catering to different preferences and budgets. Here’s a look at some of the most popular options:

Self-Drive Safaris

A self-drive safari allows you to explore at your own pace and is often the most affordable option. You can rent a car and drive through the national parks, staying at budget accommodations along the way.

- Advantages: Flexibility, cost-effective, and a sense of adventure.
- Considerations: Requires planning and navigation skills. Some parks have rough roads, so a 4x4 vehicle may be necessary.

Guided Group Safaris

Joining a guided group safari is a great way to meet other travelers and share the cost of activities and transportation. These tours are usually led by experienced guides who can enhance your wildlife viewing experience with their knowledge.

- Advantages: Professional guidance, social experience, and often includes transportation and accommodations.
- Considerations: Less flexibility in the itinerary, and you’ll be traveling with a group.

Camping Safaris

Camping safaris offer a truly immersive experience in the wild. These safaris typically involve staying in tented camps within the parks and reserves.

- Advantages: Close to nature, often includes meals and guided activities.
- Considerations: Requires a tolerance for basic amenities and potential wildlife encounters at night.

Lodge Safaris

Budget lodge safaris provide a comfortable yet affordable option for those who prefer not to camp. These packages include stays at budget-friendly lodges or guesthouses.

- Advantages: More comfort than camping, often includes meals and guided activities.
- Considerations: Slightly higher cost than camping, but still budget-friendly compared to luxury lodges.

What to Expect on a Budget Safari

While budget safaris are more affordable, they still offer incredible wildlife viewing and memorable experiences. Here’s what you can typically expect:

Wildlife Viewing

South Africa’s national parks and reserves are teeming with wildlife. On a budget safari, you’ll have ample opportunities to see the Big Five, along with numerous other species like zebras, giraffes, hippos, and various bird species.

- Game Drives: Most budget safaris include daily game drives led by experienced guides who know where to find the animals and how to approach them safely.
- Bush Walks: Some packages offer guided bush walks, where you can learn about the smaller details of the ecosystem, such as plants, insects, and tracks.
- Birdwatching: South Africa is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with many species to observe throughout the parks.

Accommodations

Budget accommodations range from basic campsites and self-catering cottages to budget lodges and guesthouses. While these may not offer the luxury of high-end lodges, they provide comfortable and clean lodging with all the essentials.

- Campsites: Often located within the parks, offering the thrill of staying close to nature.
- Self-Catering Units: Provide facilities for you to prepare your own meals, helping to keep costs down.
- Budget Lodges and Guesthouses: Offer more amenities than camping, such as en-suite bathrooms and dining facilities.

Meals

Many budget safari packages include some meals, often breakfast and dinner, while lunch is usually self-catered or available at an additional cost. Self-catering accommodations allow you to prepare your own meals, which can be a fun and cost-effective option.

- Bush Meals: Some packages include special experiences like bush breakfasts or dinners, where you dine in a scenic outdoor setting.
- Local Cuisine: Take the opportunity to try local South African dishes, which can be both delicious and affordable.

How to Save Even More on Your Safari

If you’re looking to stretch your budget further, consider these additional tips:

1. Travel with Friends or Family: Sharing the cost of accommodations and transportation can significantly reduce your expenses.
2. Look for Deals and Discounts: Keep an eye out for special offers or last-minute deals from safari operators.
3. Opt for Shorter Trips: A shorter safari can be just as fulfilling and more budget-friendly than a longer one.
4. Combine Destinations: Combine your safari with other affordable destinations or activities in South Africa, such as visiting Cape Town or the Garden Route.

Must-Have Items for a Budget Safari

Packing the right gear can make your budget safari more comfortable and enjoyable. Here are some essential items to bring:

- Clothing: Lightweight, breathable clothing for the day and warmer layers for the evenings. Neutral colors are best for blending in with the environment.
- Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes for bush walks and sandals for relaxing around camp.
- Binoculars: Essential for spotting wildlife at a distance.
- Camera: Capture your safari memories with a good quality camera. A zoom lens can be particularly useful for wildlife photography.
